Warm temperatures to stick around, rain chances to roll through this week

Spring’s unseasonably warm temperatures aren’t expected to go anywhere yet and might even be joined by some storms later this week.

Forecaster Andy Lesage with the National Weather Service in Paducah says the temperatures are expected to reach highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s throughout the work week. However, he says the above-average temperatures are set to dip during a little the weekend when a cold front sweeps through, bringing stormy weather with it.

Lesage says rain and storm chances roll in Wednesday night into Thursday morning, and on Saturday afternoon. During both rain events, Lesage is not expecting more than an inch of precipitation, but says whatever does fall will at least stop drought conditions from getting worse.

According to the most recent drought monitor update, Lesage says a majority of western Kentucky is under a severe drought.

Jumping to next week, Lesage says the unseasonably warm temperatures will remain, and precipitation is expected to be slightly above normal.
