The University Heights Academy Blazers got a little revenge on Lyon County and at the same time, moved into the finals of the 2026 Region 2 All “A” Baseball Tournament with a 16-0, three-inning victory over the Lyons Tuesday night at VFW Park in Princeton.
Lyon had rallied from a six-run deficit in the All “A” region championship last year to beat the Blazers 9-8 in 12 innings. A little more than a month later, the Lyons defeated the Blazers 5-1 in the Region 2 championship game in Eddyville.
Tuesday night belonged to the seventh-ranked Blazers (11-2) from the start as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead and kept the pressure on Lyon County (5-6).
UHA used five walks, four hits, an error and a hit batter to score eight runs in the first inning. The big hit was a three-run double by Cadence Gibson.
The Blazers made it 9-0 with a run in the top of the second and put the game away with seven runs in the top of the third. UHA only had two hits in the frame, but took advantage of a Lyon County error and six walks and a hit batter.Jackson Flynn had a two-run double in the frame.
Gibson led UHA with two doubles and four RBI. Flynn and Courtland Gibson each had a pair of RBI.
Ryan Luckey tossed a no-hitter over three innings. The senior right-hander struck out six and walked two.
UHA advances to Thursday night’s 5:30 p.m. championship game where it will face host Caldwell County. The Tigers won for the seventh straight game, holding off Crittenden County 9-4 in the first semifinal on Monday.
Caldwell County enters Thursday night’s championship game at 10-2 on the season.
