University Heights Academy pulled away from host Daviess County 6-2 Tuesday night in a high school baseball game.
The No. 7-ranked Blazers won for the eighth straight time this season and improved to 9-1.
The teams were tied 1-1 entering the top of the fifth inning as Hayden Hunt doubled to score Caydence Gibson and came around to score on a single by Jackson Flynn to give UHA a 3-1 lead.
The Blazers padded the lead to 4-1 in the sixth as Bryson Turner scored on a sacrifice fly by Cadence Gibson.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Blazers added two runs on a single by Aiden Jones and a fielder’s choice.
The Panthers added one run in the bottom of the seventh but Ryan Luckey shut the door on Daviess’ comeback attempt.
Jackson Flynn had a double and single and Jones collected a pair of hits for UHA. Courtland Gibson had a triple and Hayden Hunt doubled in the victory.
Hunt picked up the pitching win. The senior went three innings and struck out five while allowing four hits and a run. Luckey pitched four innings of relief and only allowed one hit while striking out five.
The Blazers are back in action Thursday at home against Logan County.
