The Christian County Colonels’ baseball team suffered its second straight defeat on Tuesday as it fell to host Madisonville-North Hopkins 8-2.
The Maroons roughed up Colonels’ starting pitcher Andrew Fincham for five hits and five earned runs in three innings. Christian County’s defense also committed multiple errors behind Fincham.
The No. 17-ranked Colonels led 2-1 entering the bottom of the third inning, but the Maroons struck for four runs. Christian County committed an error and Madisonville’s Alex Richards doubled. Another Colonels’ error allowed another run to score.Â
Madisonville padded its led to 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning as it plated three more runs.
Christian County took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a pair of hits. Andrew Mayes and Layton Lindsey each had a RBI-single in the frame.
Gage Montes and Mayes had a pair of hits for the Colonels, who slipped to 2-2 on the season.
Christian County will travel to Alabama Friday and Saturday to take on nationally-ranked Farragut (Knoxville), Bearden, and Hoover (Alabama). Farragut is ranked No. 38 and Hoover is No. 44 in the High School Top 50 national baseball rankings.
