CCPS to reevaluate hosting graduation ceremonies in high school gyms

Christian County School Board members approved hosting the 2026 graduation ceremonies at each high school’s gymnasium at Thursday’s meeting, and after receiving some public disapproval over the decision, it was announced that other options are being explored.

The 2026 graduation ceremonies will be held on May 22. Christian County High School seniors will graduate at 5 p.m., while Hopkinsville High School seniors will graduate at 8:30 p.m. The ceremonies are typically hosted at the Stadium of Champions, but board members approved moving the ceremonies to the school’s gymnasiums.

According to a Christian County Public Schools news release, hosting the graduations in each school’s gymnasium is a way to honor the proud, long-standing traditions of both schools, allowing the final graduating classes to celebrate this milestone before the consolidated Christian County High School opens. The change in venue also comes as the Stadium of Champions is set to undergo some renovations before the next school year starts.

That decision is now being reconsidered after community members expressed disapproval of the venue change. According to a news release, administrative leaders will be meeting with senior advisory councils from both schools next week to explore different options for the commencement ceremonies. CCPS Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they should have received more feedback from seniors before the the decision was made.
