Family looking for support as Lyon Co. Sheriff’s Department employee battles cancer

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in supporting a valued member of their team as she battles against cancer.

According to Lyon County Sheriff Brent White, Chief Financial Deputy Penny Crawford was diagnosed with a melanoma cancer in 2025, and following treatment, she was declared cancer free in December. The cancer would return with vengeance less than 60 days later, and this time, it moved to her brain.

Due to Crawford being out of work for the foreseeable future, her health insurance comes to an end on May 10, so the sheriff’s office is looking to raise funds to support Crawford and her family during this serious health struggle, and give her the best fighting chance she can have.

Monetary contributions will go directly towards covering medical costs, including expenses, hospital stays and essential treatments. Donations can be made through the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Foundation, Inc.

For more information, reach out to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department by calling 270-388-2311 and ask about the Prayers and Pennies for Penny campaign.
