A stray lightning strike may have been the source of some mayhem that happened at Ollie’s on Fort Campbell Boulevard in Hopkinsville Thursday morning.
Firefighters responded to the business near Planet Fitness for reports of smoke in the building, and were quickly able to determine there was no active fire. Following investigation, Hopkinsville Fire and EMS Captain Payton Rogers tells WHOP News that they suspect that lightning struck one of the rooftop HVAC units, frying the motor inside.
That then pushed smoke into the building, setting off the smoke alarms, but there was no live fire to be found. No one was injured in the incident, which was quickly cleared.
