During winter, blood shortages often occur, and Madi Richardson, the director of the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center’s Hopkinsville location, is encouraging folks to come out and donate.
Richardson is the new director of the Hopkinsville center, and she recently appeared on WHOP to share how folks can donate much-needed blood. During inclement winter weather, Richardson says more vehicle wrecks and other incidents occur, where those involved may need blood transfusions.
The inclement weather has also led to fewer people coming to the center to donate. Those interested in donating must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parent consent, and weigh at least 115 pounds. Richardson says donors should also eat a substantial meal and drink water before their blood is drawn.Â
Richardson says they are grateful for all of the donations they received during the recent icy weather and reminded folks that they are always in need of blood.
Blood donated to the Hopkinsville center supports local and regional hospitals. The Hopkinsville center is located at 1902 South Virginia Street, and those interested in donating can call 270-885-0728.
