Hopkinsville woman arrested for speeding, fleeing police

Officers from the Hopkinsville Police Department arrested 35-year-old Ashley Mongham of Hopkinsville on multiple charges after she reportedly fled from law enforcement after she was seen speeding on Saturday.  

According to a report from police, an officer witnessed Mongham driving a vehicle east on East 18th Street at 39 mph in 25 mph zone. The responding officer then switched on their emergency lights to attempt a traffic stop.  

However, Mongham reportedly failed to pull over and preceded to turn right onto Bentley Street traveling against the direction of traffic before driving back onto East 18th street at approximately 70 mph.

The pursuit continued until Mongham allegedly drove off the roadway and crashed into a house on the 1700 block of South Virginia Street. According to the report, Mongham then exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot.

After repeatedly commanding for Mongham to stop, the responding officer reported that Mongham was tased by a fellow officer twice before they were able to detain her.

Once detained, the officer reported the presence of a strong alcohol odor coming from Mongham. As she was being medically cleared at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, Mongham confessed to drinking whiskey and vodka and using cocaine and methamphetamine before driving.

Mongham was charged with speeding, disregarding a stop sign, two first degree charges of fleeing or evading police, driving improperly on the left side of the road, operating a vehicle under the influence, resisting arrest and reckless driving.
