Johnston, Cansler power Lady Tigers at Best of the West

The Hopkinsville Tigers’ swim team tested its mettle against some of the top competitors in the state Saturday at the Best of the West Swim Meet in Bowling Green.

Leading the way for Hoptown was senior Grace Cansler, who swam to a sixth-place finish in the Breaststroke. Cansler finished in a time of 1:18.36, nine seconds off the pace set by Daviess County’s Ryleigh Bevil.

The Lady Tigers’ Lily Johnston also earned a top-10 finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:17.69. Bowling Green’s Riley Crowe won in 2:02.95.

Johnston also finished 10th in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 1:15.24, 11 seconds behind Daviess’ Ellie Girten.

Hopkinsville’s girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Saralynn Major, Kaley Bangart, Johnston, and Cansler had an impressive swim, taking fifth in 1:58.76.

The girls’ 200-yard medley relay team also earned a top-10 finish, taking seventh place in a time of 2:15.38. Members of the team included Brilyn Merrick, Cansler, Johnston, and Major.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team had a good day, taking 10th with a time of 4:56.01. That team consisted of Evelyn Bangart, Brooke Ebbinger, Kaley Bangart, and Sarah Kate Gilliam.

For the boys’ team, Levi Johnston had the top individual finish of the day as he took 11th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.18 seconds. He also took 11th in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 1:02.85.
