School board approves new elevator contract for consolidated high school

The Christian County School Board discussed and approved the rescinding of their contract with Otis Elevator Company and approved a contract with DC Elevators for five hydraulic elevators at the new consolidated high school at their special called meeting on Thursday.

District Technology Director, Jason Wilson says they were not able to agree with Otis on a contract after the board accepted their bid at a prior meeting. Wilson says the largest issue with the contract was that there was not a firm price.

Along with not having a firm price, Wilson says the contract did not include temporary use permits to help construction efforts and the warranty on the elevators would end before their open to public use.

In response to issues with the contract, the board voted to rescind their vote approving the elevator bid with Otis and voted to reject the bid.

Board attorney, Jack Lackey describes the elevator contract change as time sensitive, because it factors into the current construction work being done at the site. Tim Geegan with Alliance Corporation says they may have to adjust some of the work they have already done to accommodate a different company’s elevators.

With the Otis contract repealed, they voted to approve a new contract with DC Elevators which Wilson says will cost around $660,000.

In the consolidated Christian County High School elevators will be located in each four of the academies and the gymnasium.
