Inclement weather results in Christmas parade postponement

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation announced that the HES Engerynet Christmas Parade has been rescheduled for December 16 at 5:15 p.m. as the result of forecasts of thunderstorms, high winds and heavy rain for the weekend.

In a press release from Parks and Recreation, Superintendent Toby Hudson says he understands it is an inconvenience to reschedule a large-scale event, but their priority is making sure everyone remains safe while having an enjoyable time.

Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight shared his support for the decision saying he doesn’t want those spectating or participating in the parade to get sick or hurt as a result of the inclement weather.

The community Christmas Tree lighting will still be held on Friday. Parks and Recreation specifies that information posted regarding the parade is transferable to the new date and the route, time, participants, and road closures will not change.
