Tigers lock down Cooper to take 5th in Ashland tourney

Hopkinsville took fifth place in the Ashland Invitational Tournament by defeating Cooper 49-38 Monday night.

Jayon Bass scored 17 points and James Bradley Jr. added 11 for Hoptown, which held the Jaguars to only 15 points in the first half.

As its defense was locking down Cooper, the Tigers’ offense was heating up as they outscored the Jaguars 14-4 in the period.

Hoptown extended its lead to 39-26 entering the final period. Bass, Bradley, and Tayshawn Quarles made free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Jayon Bass was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Tigers, who improved to 7-6 on the season.

Hopkinsville is off until Saturday when it will play host to Kenwood.
