Rotary, Kiwanis Clubs raise $22k to benefit the Salvation Army of Hopkinsville

While the Salvation Army Red Kettle Fundraising campaign has been ongoing in Hopkinsville since the end of November, there’s been a friendly competition happening right alongside it.

For several years now, the Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville have had a head-to-head competition to see which club can raise the most money to benefit the Salvation Army of Hopkinsville and their programs and services.  And that was true of this year as well, as club members braved all types of weather conditions to ring the bells and get those vital donations.

On Wednesday, it was time to announce the winners of the competition, with Salvation Army officials saying this effort helps people in need, right here in this community.

Then, the totals—the Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville raised $8,661, but the Rotary Club claimed the championship belt, raising $14,245.

That’s a combined total of $22,906 to go towards programs such as the soup kitchen, the extreme weather shelter, camp for local kids and many other services.

And that’s just the funds that have been raised by the two clubs, as other organizations and individuals have also been participating, so here’s hoping that’s a good sign that efforts will have gone very well before the Red Kettle campaign comes to a close.
