Road crews with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinetās District 2 office are spending Monday preparing for the winter system expected to move into the region tonight.
Teams began pretreating on Friday, well before the light sleet that passed through parts of the district on Saturday. Crews were back out early this morning, concentrating on major A and B routes. Those operations will continue through the afternoon and wrap up around sunset.
Crews will remain on-call overnight so they can respond quickly if conditions change.
Tuesday morning, workers will begin applying salt to primary routes before moving on to secondary roads as conditions allow.
Drivers planning to travel a night should stay alert to changing forecasts. Winter weather can develop quickly and visibility and roadway conditions can shift without much warning. If you encounter a snowplow, please give crews plenty of room and remember that plows typically move at slower speeds.
