Wintry weather could wash over the area Monday night

We officially have our first real chance for wintry precipitation to start the work week out, as the National Weather Service in Paducah is watching a weather system that could bring a mix of wintry weather to our area.

That’s according to Meteorologist Justin Gibbs, who says they have their eye on an approaching system that will catch our cold front that moved through over the weekend, and it’s possible that the western Kentucky area could see snow, sleet or even a little bit of ice accumulations. Gibbs says they’re not expecting big impacts from this event, but it could be enough to cause mischief on area roadways.

They remain unsure of where exactly the precipitation types will fall and how much, but right now, it’s possible western Kentucky could see a couple inches of snow Monday night.

There could be minor impacts that might cause slippery or slushy conditions on the road, but Gibbs says the thing they do know for sure is that its going to be cold and stay that way for a while.

As with any winter weather system, things could change pretty quickly, so stay tuned to the National Weather Service in Paducah and the WHOP Family of Stations for any watches, warnings or updates.
