The Christian County School Board voted to advertise bids to construct new athletic fields and resurface current sports grounds, and approved the creation of new positions at Thursday’s meeting.
Before diving into their voting items, board members received a presentation concerning the results of the 2024-25 Kentucky State Assessment, which showed growth, as well as areas where students could improve. Information about the results is available here.
Personnel Director Leslie Lancaster and Consolidated Christian County High School Executive Principal Ken Carver presented four job descriptions for the new high school. Board members approved the creation of an Administrative Assistant to the Executive Principal, a Building Assessment Coordinator, a Registrar and four Academy Principal Administrative Assistant job positions.
Turning toward athletics, the board voted to advertise for bids to upgrade the track and field at the Stadium of Champions, and approved resurfacing the track behind Gateway Academy.
The track behind the academy will be resurfaced for $203,827, and Assistant Superintendent Jason Wilson says it will be used for practices while the track at the stadium is being resurfaced.
Wilson says the current track will be removed and then a spray-on track will be laid. On the other hand, the new track at the stadium will be thicker and non-permeable, which will take longer to install. Wilson says the track at the stadium will be better suited for hosting competitions.
Along with the stadium’s track being resurfaced, Wilson says turf will be installed on the field, the gravel driveway will be paved, and a new fence will be erected around the track. The stadium upgrades are expected to cost around $2 million.
Board Chair Tom Bell says once the stadium’s upgrades are complete, the school district will be able to host regional track and field and band competitions.
The board also approved advertising for bids to construct athletic fields and facilities at the consolidated CCHS.
