Hopkinsville High School announced its fifth Planters Bank-Hopkinsville High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class on Monday afternoon.
Leading the way are seven former football players in the 20-person and one-team honored class. The class also includes three basketball players, three wrestlers, three coaches, three contributors, a baseball player, and a state champion swimming relay team.
This year’s class includes:
Ray Cobb – Football – Scored the first points against Christian County on a kickoff return.
Rontreal Braxton – Basketball – Two-year starter who led the Tigers to school-best 33-3 record and state semifinal appearance in 2003.
Stuart Coleman – Football – Fullback and linebacker on the 1966 Class 2-A state championship team.
Willie Ennels – Wrestling – Three-time state champion (1989, 135-pounds, 1991, 152-pounds, 1992, 160-pounds).
Betsy Glover – Contributor – Long-time statistician for baseball and basketball teams and also served as school’s Athletic Director for a short time.
Chuck Hughes – Football – All-State defensive end/linebacker who led the Tigers to the 1984 Class 3-A state championship game. He went on to play at WKU.
Roy Keller – Contributor – Has kept football statistics for WHOP’s coverage of Hopkinsville High School football for 45 seasons.
Steve Koon – Football – Fullback and linebacker on the 1965 Class 2-A state championship team. Went on to play at the University of Kentucky as a nose guard. He later played in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers.
Bob Latham – Football – Running back and linebacker on the 1966 Class 2-A state championship team. Was All-State player his senior year and went on to play at Vanderbilt as a fullback and linebacker.
Mike Lewis – Football/Coach – A four-year letterman in football who helped the Tigers win the 1965 and 1966 Class 2-A state championships. After high school he went on to play at Memphis State for two years. He also was the head coach of the Tigers’ 1984 team that played for the Class 3-A state championship.
Elliot “Chip” Miles – Baseball – Considered one of the top Hoptown pitchers in school history. He went on to play collegiately at Western Kentucky.
Rusty Nunn – Football – Quarterback of the 1963 Tigers’ 7-3 football team. Earned a scholarship and went on to play at Memphis State where he was a three-year starter. Nunn also was All-District in basketball played five years of golf at HHS, reaching the state golf tournament once.
Greg Perry – Baseball Coach –Coached the Tigers from 2007-09 and then from 2014-16. He coached the Tigers to the 2015 Region 2 championship. His coaching record was 115-62. He was 61-22 against Region 2 opponents and 27-11 against District 8 foes. Perry also was the MVP of the 1982 Tigers’ baseball team.
Eddie Person – Wrestling – Two-time state wrestling champion at 155 pounds in 1984 and 1985. Person helped lead the Tigers to the 1985 state wrestling title.
David Randolph – Football – All-State football player who also played basketball and ran track for the Tigers. Played collegiate football at Vanderbilt.
Jeff Sisk – Contributor – Has broadcast Hopkinsville High School football and basketball games for WHOP radio for 25 years.
James Tandy – Basketball – Finished his high school career as one of the all-time leading scorers. Went on to a college basketball career at the University of Texas and later at East Tennessee State.
Bruce Thomas – Wrestling – After high school went on to earn All-American status at Southeast Missouri State and also coached at Jackson (Mo.) High School from 1982-1995 where he compiled a 105-10-3 dual-match record including a 52-match winning streak.
Shelley Tribble – Softball Coach – All-time winningest slow-pitch coach in school history. She coached the team from 1989-1994. Led the team to two Region 2 slow-pitch tournament title games.
Steve Tribble – Basketball – Led the Tigers to their first ever basketball wins over Christian County in the 1964-65 season. Went on to play at Vanderbilt and Murray State.
Boys’ 400-freestyle relay Swim Team – Max Adams, Peter Anderson, Tom Chewning, and Steven Litchfield, coached by Dale Baggett, won the 1985 state championship.
The newest class will be introduced at the Jan. 15 home game against University Heights Academy. A hall-of-fame awards banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 16. In Tiger Gym.
