To support military families in need during the holiday season, the Christian County Military Affairs Committee is partnering with Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel to give away 750 turkeys for Thanksgiving.
Committee Director Shannon Lane says they typically host ham giveaways near Easter, but due to the federal government shutdown, which ended on Wednesday, he wanted to find a way to support military families now.
The turkey giveaway is open to all Department of Defense I.D. cardholders. Committee Chair Philip Eastman says the giveaway is an example of their mission to support active-duty military members, veterans and their family members.
Last week, the committee hosted a food distribution at the Oak Grove entertainment destination. Afterward, Lane says Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel officials shared that they wanted to do more to support military families, and together they decided to give away turkeys.
The turkey giveaway starts at 11 a.m. on November 20 at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel located at 777 Winners Way. The giveaway will be set up near the equestrian center, so folks are asked to enter from Thompsonville Lane.
Lane says the giveaway will continue until they run out turkeys and he encourages folks to come early.
