It’s almost time to eat and be merry—but before you pack on the calories for Thanksgiving, you can get an early start on burning those off with the annual Turkey Trot.
The Turkey Trot is entering its 24th year, and for a lot of folks, it’s a ‘home for the holidays’ tradition to head downtown and participate in the 5K style run. And you don’t have to run it if you’d rather just walk it, as this race is non-competitive, non-timed and family friendly for participants of all ages.
It’s hosted by Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation, and coordinators Pam Rudd and Jacob Gibson say the race will get started at 8 a.m. sharp that morning, with check-in at 7 a.m. and they’re expecting a good turnout.
Rudd says it started with just a few hundred, but now they frequently have thousands of participants.
Folks can grab a souvenir race shirt for $25, and all proceeds from those sales will go back to benefit the Hopkinsville Greenway System, which is the racetrack in this event. Shirts will not be sold at the race the day of, so if you want one, make sure to register online on the City of Hopkinsville website.
Officials are asking that people register even if they aren’t buying a shirt, with no cost to participate.
