Local YMCA shares holiday donation opportunities, events

The Hopkinsville Christian County YMCA is one of the eighteen organizations partnering with the United Way of the Pennyrile for their 2023 campaign and YMCA Program Director, Amanda Crutchfield shared how the community can support their work.

With students set to go on winter break for the holidays, Crutchfield says the YMCA is accepting donations to provide activities to students in the community whose families may not be able to afford them. Crutchfield shared what donations from the community can go toward.

Crutchfield says for $75 dollars donors could pay for a child’s swim lessons, a $135 donation can send a child to camp for a week and with a $60 donation a child can participate in a sports program.

Coinciding with the holidays, Crutchfield says the YMCA has a giving tree where people can pick a program they would like to support and pledge whatever donation amount they want to.

Along with the giving tree, Crutchfield says those interested in donating can do so at their website hopkinsvilleymca.org or at the United Way’s website pennyrileunitedway.org.

Crutchfield also shared what programs they have underway during the winter break. The YMCA will be hosting two sessions of holiday camps on December 21 to 22 and December 28 to 29. On December 22 Crutchfield shared that they will be hosting a Parent’s Night Out where kids can get their pictures taken with Santa Claus, decorate Christmas cookies and much more.
