The City of Madisonville and the Pennyrile Area Development District recently received the 2025 Aliceann Wohlbruck Impact Award for their work establishing the Western Kentucky Law Enforcement Training Center.
In September 2024, it was announced that a new police training facility would be constructed in Madisonville. While the facility is being built, the basic training program has been temporarily housed in a building provided by the Madisonville Police Department.
In March, the facility welcomed its first class of recruits. Prior to the establishment of the facility, law enforcement recruits would have to travel to the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond.
The award was presented to PeADD and the City of Madisonville by the National Association of Development Organizations. According to a news release from PeADD, the award recognizes regional development organizations and their partners for strengthening communities, building regional resilience and enhancing local economies.
PeADD Executive Director Jason Vincent says earning the impact award for the law enforcement training facility reflects what can happen when communities work together toward the same goal.
