University Heights Academy Head Baseball Coach Scott Gentry stepped down as the Blazers’ coach Tuesday afternoon.
Gentry told WHOP he was stepping away to spend more time with his family and for a better job opportunity.
Gentry said he met with the team, which returns all but one starter from last year’s region runner-up squad, Tuesday afternoon at the Blazers’ field.
Gentry won a state baseball championship while a freshman at Christian County High School in 2004. He also was part of the Colonels’ runner-up team in 2005 and the region champion squad in 2006.
He began coaching at the middle school level at Hopkinsville under Greg Perry. He also served as a varsity assistant coach at Hoptown under Blake Leach. He took over the UHA program in 2023 and had a 60-34 record.
Gentry led the Blazers to a District 8 championship in 2024 and region runner-up finishes in 2024 and 2025. His 2025 team finished 20-11.
UHA is expected to be a top-10 program and a Region 2 contender in 2026 with eight returning starters.
Gentry said he feels as if the future is good for the next Blazers’ coach.
UHA Athletics Director Taylor Sparks told WHOP on Tuesday evening that the school would take a few days to let the news sink in and then they would begin searching for a new coach.
“We have some good options in-house and we certainly will be taking a good look at those first,” Sparks said. “I do want to thank Coach Gentry and wish him well. We had a good working relationship, and I appreciate all he’s done here.”
