For the 59th and final time, the Hopkinsville Tigers and Christian County Colonels will meet on the football field to decide bragging rights. Only this time, instead of for one year, it will be for forever.
Tonight’s game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at the Stadium of Champions and will feature many pregame alumni activities and band performances beginning at 5.
The series is tied 29-29 on the field, although Christian County leads the all-time series 30-28 due to a Hoptown forfeit for using an ineligible player in 1997.
Tigers’ Head Coach Dustin Lopez said the last game has its importance, but his team is focused on a victory, which would give the Tigers a home playoff game.
The Tigers enter the game 4-4 overall and 1-1 in Class 6-A, District 1. Hoptown depends on the play of seniors James Bradley Jr.and Aiden Jesse, junior Tremayne Clay, and sophomore quarterback Jasiah McCarley.
Christian County Interim Head Coach Kelly Myers said the Colonels will have to play well defensively to have a chance against Hoptown.
The Colonels enter the game 1-7 overall and 0-2 in district play. They have given up at least 60 points in four of their last five games, including a 63-20 loss last week to McCracken County.
Offensively, Christian County is led by senior wide receivers Darius Finch and Zyon Wharton as well as junior running back Deasian Harris.
The Colonels are scoring about 17 points per game and giving up 54.5 points per game. Meanwhile, the Tigers are scoring 37.6 points per game and allowing 29.8. Hopkinsville won last year’s game 40-7.
Airtime for the game will be 6:45 p.m. with the Hoptown broadcast set for Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP and the Colonels’ broadcast set for 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
