Daviess County ends Lady Blazers’ state soccer run

The 2025 high school soccer season started with hope and anticipation overseas at the Gothia Cup for the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers.

But it ended Tuesday night on the turf at Deer Park Elementary School in Owensboro as Region 3 champion Daviess County defeated the Lady Blazers 2-0 in the first round of the Girls’ KHSAA State Soccer Tournament.

The Lady Panthers made a pair of first-half goals stand and shut out UHA for only the second time this season.

Daviess’ top scorer on the season, Mary Evelyn Wiman, scored both goals for the Lady Panthers. Bailey Brown provided an assist.

Meanwhile, Daviess County keeper Kaelin Labhart made four saves to preserve the shutout.

UHA ends the season at 19-3-1 while Daviess County (17-6-2) advances to play Central Hardin on Saturday.

The 19 wins in a season is believed to be the most in the Lady Blazers’ history.
