Lady Blazers, Daviess square off tonight in state tourney

The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers will take the field tonight in the Girls’ KHSAA State Soccer Tournament against Daviess County at the Deer Park Elementary School in Owensboro.

The Lady Blazers and Lady Panthers tied 2-2 in their only meeting this season in a match last month in Marshall County.

UHA is led by junior Kendall Hancock, who has scored 56 goals and provided 20 assists this season. Senior Audrey Perry has 17 goals and 40 assists and junior goalie Madison Williams has allowed only 20 goals in 22 games this season.

The Lady Panthers counter with senior Mary Evelyn Wiman, who has 18 goals and 14 assists this season. Sophomore Bella Coombs has scored 11 goals and senior goalie Kaelin Labhart has made 100 saves this season and only allowed 22 goals in 24 games.

UHA enters the game on a nine-match winning streak and is 19-2-1 on the season. Daviess County has four in a row and is 16-6-2.

The match is set to kick off at 7 p.m.

The winner advances to the state quarterfinals on Saturday.
