HWEA President Derrick Watson announces upcoming retirement

After around 28 years of service, Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority President Derrick Watson is set to retire at the end of the year on December 31. 

Before becoming HWEA President, Watson served as the director of technical services, director of operations and assistant general manager. During his tenure, HWEA received 25 Clean Water Excellence Awards, four Governor Safety and Health Awards and two National Safety Excellence Awards. 

Watson also played key roles in developing over $250 million of infrastructure projects which includes the expansion of the McKenzie T. Moss Drinking Water Plant; the Lake Barkley Raw Water Intake Project; the Southpark Industrial Park Natural Gas Project and the Hopkinsville Clean Water Expansion and Renovation Project. 

Watson says he is very grateful to have had the opportunity to serve customers and the community for the past 28 years and calls it an honor to have worked alongside the amazing men and women of HWEA.
