Taste of the Town food festival takes over Hopkinsville Friday and Saturday

The Taste of the Town Food Festival is ready to take over downtown Hopkinsville this weekend, where attendees can experience sensational food while learning and experiencing the culture behind it.

The free event is hosted by Vansauwa’s Tacos and Vegan Eats, and both Deseapa and Zirconia Vansauwa appeared on WHOP recently to talk all the details and invite the community to attend. It will take place August 8 and August 9 at Founder’s Square in downtown Hopkinsville, and Deseapa Vansauwa says it’s a celebration of Black culture that will coincide with Emancipation Day and other celebrations happening that day.

There will be 20 food and beverage vendors on hand that are all Black owned and operated on hand, and it’s an all-star list—Janae’s Butts BBQ, Windy City Vibez, 3 Ty’s Agency, Bronx Mystique Deli, Biggg Sweetzz, D&A Taste of Africa, Official Wings, L.A. Street Dogs, Jewel’s Sweet Eats, Ain’t No Mo Kitchen, That Taste of Florida, Big Papa’s Hickory Smoked, Bill’s Hot Fish & Chicken, Palate Junkies, DJ’s Famous Lemonade, Taste Buds, Big Daddy’s Southern Chicken & Fish and of course, Vansauwa’s Tacos and Vegan Eats.

Zirconia Vansauwa says there will be all kinds of different foods on hand from those vendors, from southern comfort food to street-style hot dogs, African cuisine and sweet treats all around.

On top of the good eats, there will be music both days, featuring DJ Butterfly—best known for her time on 101.1 The Beat and then live karaoke Friday night, before the Tina Brown Band will perform live on Saturday.

Deseapa Vansauwa says he launched Vansauwa’s Taco and Vegan Eats for several reasons, but at the top of the list was a desire to be self-sufficient while also celebrating Black culture and ingenuity.

Ever since, they’ve been a staple of cuisine in Hopkinsville and surrounding areas, and so have many others who will all be highlighted in downtown Hopkinsville this weekend. Friday’s festival will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and then Saturday will be from noon until 5p.m.
