Surrounded by a sea of orange and black in the Hopkinsville High School gymnasium, former Christian County High School basketball star Anthony Hickey looked at home conducting his basketball camp on Thursday morning.
Hickey, the 2011 Kentucky Mr. Basketball, is currently enjoying a professional career overseas. He is playing in Italy and recently led his team to the league championship and helped them get promoted to the top level.
Hickey also said he was named the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2024-25.
Hickey and several area high school coaches held the two-day camp, which attracted about 40 boys and girls, this week at Tiger Gym.
The former LSU and Oklahoma State star said he hopes to continue coming back to Hopkinsville and giving back to the community.
Fourteen years have gone by since Hickey led the Christian County Colonels to their lone Sweet 16 state championship.
Hickey said he was fortunate to play with a group of teammates who had the will to work for their goal of earning a state title.
Hickey, who will be inducted into the Christian County High School Athletic Hall of Fame later this fall, said he is scheduled to return to Italy later next month and is looking forward to the season, which will begin in September.
