HFD lieutenant spotlights new recruits, shares Fire Station 5 update

As construction continues on the Hopkinsville Fire Department’s fifth station, Lieutenant Nathan Stewart appeared on WHOP to share a progress update and spotlight their new fire recruit class on Thursday.

Before talking about Fire Station 5, Stewart shared that no firework related injuries or structure fires occurred over the Fourth of July weekend.

Fire Station 5 is set to be at 101 Walton Way and is being constructed out of a preexisting building. To staff the new station, Stewart says they have welcomed a class of 15 new fire recruits and they are currently working through their first week of the 10-week firefighter training program.

Stewart says the recruits will complete training in September and then Fire Station 5 is set to open in October. The truck bays were recently built, and Stewart says soon they will be pouring concrete.

The department is also currently hiring EMTs, AEMTs and paramedics and Stewart says they can apply at joinhfd.us.

Then on September 5 the Hopkinsville Firefighter’s Association is hosting its third annual Golf Scramble at Western Hills Golf Course. The association, provides support for firefights and their families during hardships, grants scholarships to local students and assists local charities and organizations.
