Hopkinsville Police arrested 56-year-old Terrance Churchwell of Hopkinsville after he reportedly assaulted a victim resulting in injuries on Thursday.
Officers were dispatched to an apartment on Edmonton Street for a domestic assault in progress. The victim told officers that the assault began inside of the home when Churchwell reportedly strangled them until they felt as though they were going to pass out.
Churchwell also reportedly stuck his fingers down the victim’s throat resulting in lacerations to the back of their mouth and throat. The assault continued outside of the residence where Churchwell reportedly knocked to the victim to the ground resulting in them hitting their head.
While the victim was giving their statement, they were reportedly in and out of consciousness and had to be transported to the hospital.
As officers detained Churchwell, he reportedly resisted and was tased before complying with orders. While being searched, officers reportedly found a dollar bill in Churchwell’s pocket that had a white powdery substance on it and he admitted that it was cocaine.
Churchwell was charged with fourth-degree assault, first-degree strangulation, resisting arrest, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
