Man charged with arson in Princeton fire

A Princeton man is facing felony charges after he allegedly attempted to start a fire inside of a residence on Stevens Avenue in Princeton Wednesday. 

According to the Princeton Police Department, the Princeton Fire Department responded to the 200 block of Stevens Avenue just after 1 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a fire at Highland Homes. Crews were able to quickly get the fire extinguished and no injuries were reported.

Investigation determined that 54-year-old Michael Newton of Princeton allegedly intentionally set fire to a shirt and then laid it on his bed.

He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree arson and first-degree wanton endangerment.
