United States Congressman Andy Barr made a stop in Hopkinsville Friday Morning, as he looks to fill the U.S. Senate seat that will be left vacant when Senator Mitch McConnell does not run for reelection.
He met with constituents and local community members at Roundies in Hopkinsville, and he spoke to why he feels he is the best choice for the position. Right now, the Republican represents Kentucky’s Sixth Congressional District, which includes at least portions of Anderson, Bath, Bourbon, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Fleming, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Nicholas, Powell, Scott and Woodford counties. He was first elected to that seat in 2013.
But Barr says he serves more than just that district—he represents the state as a whole and wants to continue that in the Senate, saying he intends to support the President’s goals for the country. He says winning that Senate seat is about more than just putting a Republican in that seat.
Barr spoke on many topics of current interest, saying that he supports legal immigration, and he believes the current actions of the Trump Administration will lead to increase security and a streamlined immigration process.
Congressman Barr says he believes it is the country’s duty to stand with Israel.
A member of the audience asked him why he seems to have parted ways on policies and politics with Senator McConnell and Senator Rand Paul. Barr says he has a great respect for both men, but he is not them—he says he is Andy Barr, and that means he’s pro-life, pro-gun and pro-America.
Barr also expressed his support for the omni-bus bill supported by President Trump known as the “Big Beautiful Bill”, saying it’s his hope it will get passed as soon as the first of July. It is currently undergoing amendment and discussion in the U.S. Senate, where it faces a fair amount of opposition.
Barr is currently facing one-time governor hopeful and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron in the 2026 primary, and on the the Democrat side, State Representative Pamela Stevenson has filed to run for the seat.
