The City of Elkton is setting their sights on Christmas, and they’re inviting the community to join them for numerous Christmas and holiday events, including the first ever tree lighting ceremony.
The City of Elkton, partnering with Novelis, will host the inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 25, with a full schedule of holiday events designed to get people well into the Christmas spirit from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. that day. There will be all sorts of events taking place, from carriage rides that start 5 p.m., to free photos with Santa, Mrs. Claus and the reindeer, live musical performances, and sidewalk chalk art that everyone can participate in.
Then, at 6 p.m., Elkton Mayor Arthur Green and a special guest will conduct the official tree lighting. Officials say they hope this event becomes a community tradition and brings everyone together to celebrate the joy and spirt of the season.
That’s not all Elkton has planned however—the annual Christmas parade will take place December 9 starting at 5 p.m., along with a new event known as the Todd County Toy Run. The grand marshals of the Elkton parade will be Barbara Jordan, Frank McReynolds, Janette Sharp and Jacob Weber Jr. all of whom received the 2023 Gold Standard of Optimal Aging Award from the University of Louisville Trager Institute/Republic Band Foundation Optimal Aging Clinic.
The Todd County Toy Run, hosted by the Elkton Police Department, will bring together participants from all over with various makes, models, and years of vehicle to deliver toys to the Milliken Memorial House. All toys collected will be distributed in Todd County with the assistance of the Todd County School FRYSC.
