Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight has a lot on his wish list, and he presented that in his annual budget address and highlighted it on WHOP Radio Friday morning.
Speaking with WHOP News, he detailed how his proposed budget—which is undergoing heavy discussions amongst council members during the Hopkinsville Committee of the Whole meetings—focuses on his ‘growing home’ initiative. That includes investments in public safety, infrastructure, city cleanliness and more.
One such item is the Hoptown Helps grant program, and the mayor reminded interested non-profits that the deadline to file for a grant is May 31—you can do so online through the City of Hopkinsville’s website.
Speaking of grants, the mayor was excited to announce they’ve received a grant of $150,000 to benefit the ongoing construction of the Rotary Park on Pardue Lane, which is progressing nicely.
He says they’re also looking to apply for a grant that would fund the final leg of the Greenway System, which would bring the trail all the way to Tie Breaker Park on the Eagle Way Bypass.
Mayor Knight says the City and the state are still working together on the design of that phase of the Greenway, particularly how they would most safely get pedestrian traffic across the Bypass.
That path will put citizens right at the Tie Breaker Athletic Fields and Bluegrass Splash—and Mayor Knight says they’re happy to announce they’ll be finishing up payments on that water park this year.
Bluegrass Splash is set to open for the 2025 season on Memorial Day Weekend. To learn more about Bluegrass Splash and what ticket or season pass opportunities are available, go online to bluegrasssplash.com
