UHA’s Walton signs with Georgetown College

University Heights Academy senior Elijah Walton made it official on Wednesday as he signed a national letter-of-intent to play basketball at Georgetown College.

Walton, a 6-foot-5 forward, is coming off a good senior season when he was second on the UHA team in scoring at 18.1 points per game and led the team in rebounding at 8.3 boards per game.

For Walton, going to college on a basketball scholarship is a dream come true.

Walton finished his career at UHA with more than 600 rebounds and 1,052 points. For his four seasons with the program he averaged 12 points and eight rebounds. He connected on 50 percent of his field goals and was a 34 percent shooter from behind the arc.

Georgetown Head Coach Chris Briggs, who is a Paducah native, said he thinks Walton will be the perfect fit for the Tigers’ program.

Former UHA basketball coach Terry Hayes said Walton has a tremendous upside in college basketball.

Walton said he chose Georgetown over several NAIA schools and other small schools. He ultimately chose the Tigers because they felt like family.

Walton said he plans on majoring in project management.
