First place in the District 8 baseball standings is on the line tonight when the Hopkinsville Tigers play host to the Christian County Colonels.
The game, which was originally scheduled for Friday night, was moved to tonight due to the threat of thunderstorms on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and airtime for the pregame show will be 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
The Tigers have won three out of four games and are 3-1 in the District 8 standings. Their only district loss came earlier this month at home to University Heights Academy.
Christian County is currently in first place in the district standings at 4-0. A Colonels’ win would give them a two-game lead on the Tigers and a game-and-a-half lead over the Blazers in the chase for the coveted No. 1 seed in next month’s district tournament.
The Colonels are expected to pitch senior left-hander Aiden Lewis tonight. Lewis is 2-1 on the season with a 2.73 ERA. He has struck out 34 batters and only walked six.
The Tigers could pitch Andrew Mayes, who enters the game 3-3 with a 1.66 ERA. The junior right-hander has struck out 36 batters and only walked 15 this season.
Christian County is 2-5 in its last seven games, but both wins were against District 8 opponents. The Colonels routed Heritage Christian Academy 15-0 in four innings on Monday and knocked off No. 24-ranked UHA 8-3 last Friday night.
Hopkinsville comes into the game at 9-7 overall and Christian County is 10-9.
