UHA could name basketball coach as soon as today

University Heights Academy may be close to hiring a new basketball coach.

UHA Athletics Director Taylor Sparks told WHOP today that interviews were held on Wednesday with five candidates. Three of those have UHA connections and two are from out of town.

Sparks said the committee was planning to get together this afternoon and an announcement could come as early as today.

Terry Hayes resigned as head basketball coach shortly after the 2024-25 season ended. The Blazers finished 9-13 and were defeated in the first round of the District 8 tournament by Christian County 69-62.

In two seasons, Hayes coached the Blazers to a 33-20 record and a District 8 championship in 2023-24.

Sparks said the school is thankful to Hayes for coaching and for continuing to serve as the school’s assistant athletic director.

Hayes also served on the search committee for the next Blazers’ coach.
