UHA advances past HCA to All ‘A’ region semifinals

University Heights Academy wasted little time with visiting Heritage Christian Academy and defeated the Warriors 15-0 in three innings Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Region 2 All “A” Baseball Tournament.

The game also counted in the District 8 standings and saw UHA take over first place in the district standings at 3-0.

The No. 21-ranked Blazers sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the first inning on Tuesday. UHA took advantage of four walks and five hits and a HCA throwing error. The big hit in the inning was a two-run triple by Jaiden Miles.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Blazers (5-3, 3-0) batted around again, this time plating six runs on four hits. Hayden Hunt had a two-run double in the frame.

The Blazers ended the game in the bottom of the third scoring two runs without making an out. Eli Finch walked and Jackson Flynn reached on an error and both moved up a base after a wild pitch.

Finch and Flynn both scored after a wild pitch went to the backstop and the throw back to pitcher Ethan Miles got away.

HCA (2-5, 0-1) opened the game on a base hit by Cadyn Travis. The Warriors would eventually load the bases but Flynn was able to strike out Caden Hale to get out of the jam.

In the top of the third, Caden Gresham and Ethan Miles led off with line drive singles and moved up a base due to a balk. However, Flynn recorded three straight strike outs and thwarted the threat.

Ryan Luckey and Cadence Gibson each had a pair of hits for the Blazers.

Flynn picked up the pitching win and Collin Outland suffered the pitching loss for HCA, which returns to action Saturday at home against Clarksville Christian.

UHA advances to play Crittenden County at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the All “A” region tournament semifinals.

At Caldwell County today, Fort Campbell will take on the host Tigers at 5:30 and that game will be followed by Livingston Central against Lyon County at 7:30 p.m. The winners of tonight’s game will meet in the All “A” semifinals at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday.
