Christian Co. Judge-Executive talks updating county buildings

Several Christian County buildings are getting some attention lately, with Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam saying they’re looking into ways to best serve the community at the same time.

Many county buildings are getting up there in age, and Judge Gilliam says work needs to be done in some capacity to all of them to keep them in good working condition.  And some, such as the Christian County Courthouse that houses the County Clerk’s Office, need updating in general in the way of HVAC and other utilities—but he says they intend to keep the historical architecture.

He says they did briefly consider moving the Clerk’s Office out of the historic building, but quickly learned that was not what the people wanted.

Judge Gilliam says they’re currently in the design and study phase of the process, but some work is already being approved, and they want to make sure they’re making the best use of their available space.

They’ll likely be looking into making improvements or renovations at the Christian County Jail, the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter, the building that houses the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and other buildings in the coming months.
