Pitching, defense key concerns for Colonels in 2025

If the Christian County Colonels baseball team is going to improve in 2025 from last year, head coach Cole Isom knows it’s going to start with pitching and defense.

Isom, who is in his fourth season, saw his team turn in a 12-20 record last year. He says the priority in the offseason has been improving the defense.

Pitching shouldn’t be a problem for the Colonels. Although they lost a couple of their top starters last year to graduation, Isom said the team is deep this year at the pitcher position.

Leading the way is senior left-hander Aiden Lewis. Juniors Gage Montes, Eddie Davis, Sebastian Dazey, and Drew Fincham also will be counted on heavily in the rotation. Isom said he also has some younger arms that he will count on this year.

Offensively, the Colonels will rely on Lewis (.322), junior Blake Boehman (.289), Montes (.290), and Dazey (.314).

Junior Coalton Ingram, sophomore Leland Creamer, senior Layton Creamer, sophomore Gage McCart, and freshman Preston Stokes also will be vying for playing time.

Isom said he has made a tough schedule for his squad hoping that it will pay off for them at tournament time.

After opening with District 8 opponent Fort Campbell at home on Monday, the Colonels will face McCracken County, Warren East, Owensboro, South Warren, and Madisonville-North Hopkins in the coming weeks.
