State officials announced March 17 through March 21 as the first statewide Agriculture Education Week in Kentucky.
The new initiative was led by Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman, Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell, and Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher to provide children with access to education about where their food, fuel, and fiber come from.
While the students learn about agriculture, they will have the opportunity to explore careers within the sector to make a better connection to agriculture in the state.
During Ag. Education Week, teachers will be provided with lesson plans and resources about nutrition, sustainability, and how agriculture affects the world around them.
Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman says, “We have found common ground in our shared value of providing our children with opportunities that will allow all Kentuckians to thrive for generations to come. We do that by bringing two of the most important sectors- agriculture and education- together in a way that’s never been done before.”
