Local Salvation Army receives federal grants for homeless assistance

The Hopkinsville Salvation Army was awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care Program to provide assistance to the homeless.

The department awarded nearly $3.6 billion to around 7,000 homeless projects across the nation and Kentucky alone received around $46 million. The local Salvation Army’s Rapid Rehousing Program received $313,000 and the Permanent Supportive Housing Program received $127,000.

The Rapid Rehousing Program helps residents contact potential landlords and provides tenants with rent assistance and case management. The Permanent Supportive Housing Program offers homeless individuals, families, and transitional age youth in need with long-term rent assistance and other support services.
