Local Planning Committee elects chairs, discusses facility improvements

The Local Planning Committee for the Christian County Public School System elected a chairperson and vice-chairperson as well as discussed facility improvements at their Tuesday meeting.

The committee is responsible for creating a four-year district facilities plan and Tuesday was their first meeting of the year. The committee is made up by school system employees and members of the community.

Members underwent some orientation and received more insight on the purpose of a facilities plan. Afterward they elected David Wimpy to serve as chairperson and Mark McGee to serve as vice-chairperson of the committee.

The committee then discussed what they would like to see included in the facilities plan. Sinking Fork Elementary School Principal, Lacey Ramirez says they need more private office spaces to accommodate student services such as counseling and physical therapy.

Fellow member and former school board representative, Tiffany Mumford Brame talked about making a larger performing arts center. Mumford Brame says the current performing arts center at Christian County Middle School is not big enough to accommodate all shows or audiences.

Some members also discussed the need for more parking at elementary schools. Indian Hills Elementary School Assistant Principal, Matthew Francies says during family events they often do not have enough available parking.

Members will continue discussing improvement ideas at their next meeting tentatively set for February 4.
