Louisville Butler held off Christian County and gave the Lady Colonels their third straight basketball loss in the Queen of the Commonwealth Monday afternoon, 54-49.
Christian County (6-6) trailed 27-17 at halftime, but rallied to draw within 37-35 entering the fourth quarter behind the play of DEbony Anderson, Anaysia Bagwell, and Genesis McGee.
However, Butler (5-2) got a pair of three pointers from Keziah Renee and hit five out of seven free throws in the final quarter to hold off the Lady Colonels. Renee led the Bearettes, who were ranked No. 18 in the Courier-Journal Preseason Poll, with 18 points.
Bagwell led Christian County with 14 points. Na’Vaeh Day had nine points and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Lazarie Daniel had eight points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Colonels are back in action Friday against Portland, Tenn., in the Lady of the South Invitational at Allen County-Scottsville.
