The Christian County Colonels cross country team will be running at the KHSAA State Meet for the first time in 14 years after their performance Saturday at the Class 3-A, Region 1 meet at Marshall County High School.
Christian County earned the state bid by taking fifth place with 148 points. Wyatt Fleming led the way for the Colonels, taking 11th overall in a time of 17:34.06. Michael Webb was close behind, taking 16th in a time of 17:52.90.
Rex Taggart continued improving his time, finishing 35th in a time of 18:36.76 and JT Miles was 41st in 18:55.32.
Others running for the Colonels included Bryce Hamlin (45, 19:16.66) and Joseph Parker (47, 19:28.38).
Marshall County’s Kobey Yates blistered the course in 15:35.37 to win the Class 3-A meet.
Daviess County won the team title with 59 points, followed by Apollo (62), Marshall County (62), Muhlenberg County (80) and Christian County.
In the girls’ Class 3-A, Region 1 meet, Taylor Morris was the lone Lady Colonel to qualify for state, taking 11th overall in the girls’ Region 1 run. Morris completed the course in a time of 21:11.70.
Other Lady Colonels running included Ellie Brown (26, 23:04.50) and Lilly Collins (55, 29:52.40).
Daviess County’s Lucy Spain won the girls’ individual race in a time of 19:47.20.
Daviess County ran away with the team title with 15 points, followed by Graves County (59), McCracken County (107), Owensboro (126) and Muhlenberg County (134).
