Lady Tigers claim 2nd at Region cross country meet; Cavinder reaches State meet

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers’ cross country team came within a whisker of capturing the Class 2-A, Region 1 championship Saturday at Marshall County High School.

The Lady Tigers placed five runners in the top 15 and scored 46 points to finish second to Calloway County, which had 30.

Lauren Mayes led the way for Hopkinsville, taking third place in a time of 20:30.02. Alexis Herrera Lovetto continued to see improvement in her times as she took eighth overall in a time of 22:35.56. Kaydon Coats also earned a top-10 finish by taking 10th in a time of 22:58.79.

Rebecca Wood was 12th in 23:14.32 and Evelyn Bangarrt finished 13th in 23:17.08.

Amerah Acree and LuAnna Acree both scored top-30 finishes by taking 24th and 28th with times of 26:52.45 and 29:06.58, respectively.

Webster County took third place in the team competition with 53 points, followed by Union County (93) and Hopkins County Central (132).

Vayla Carlisle of Calloway County won the individual competition with a time of 19:37.40.

In the boys’ race, Tyson Cavinder was the lone Tiger to make the state tournament after finishing seventh overall in the boys’ Class 2-A, Region 1 meet.

Cavinder ran the course in a time of 17:39.67. Savior Davis barely missed a spot in the state meet, completing the course in 18:47.01, which was 20th overall. Fernando Ginez-Rojas was 45th in a time of 23:59.88.

Union County’s Tristan Coy won the boys’ meet in a time of 16:42.64.

Paducah Tilghman won the Class 2-A meet with 57 points, followed by Webster County 64), Calloway County (65), Hopkins County Central (95) and Trigg County (105).
