Kentucky Farm Bureau announced that a Kentucky dog was selected as a finalist for the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 2024 Farm Dog of the Year Competition.

According to a news release, Daisy is the once-abandoned dog of KFB members Shelby and Lora Ennis of Elizabethtown. The Ennis family submitted their rescue pup to the competition because of all the times Daisy has come to the rescue for others.

Daisy’s owner, Lora Ennis, had a hard fall at home and Daisy raced to alert Shelby of the accident. In a press release from the Kentucky Farm Bureau the Ennis family says, this was a moment they realized there was something special about their dog.

Shelby Ennis says, “When Lora came home from the hospital, she was so weak and stayed sitting in her chair for the next two days, but Daisy was extremely quiet around her. She apparently understood what was going on and that Lora needed to rest.”

This wasn’t the last time Daisy showed up for others—on a recent walk at a nature trail, she located someone in distress just off the path. After Daisy located the individual, they were able to receive the care they needed, but if it wasn’t for Daisy, there is no way to tell how long the individual would have laid there.

After all of her efforts to rescue others, the once-abandoned pup now known as “Daisy the Rescuer”.
