On Tuesday music legend Dolly Parton was named Kentucky Colonel by Governor Andy Beshear.

During Parton’s visit to Lexigton where she recognized the expansion of her free book program becoming available in all Kentucky counties, she was bestowed the highest recondition a governor can award someone, the Kentucky Colonel.

The recognition is to commemorate an individual’s work in encouraging good will and fellowship around the world. Parton wanted to instill a love for books and reading in young children with her program Imagination Library, where they have been fulfilling Kentucky’s mission since 1995.
