The Hopkinsville Tigers and The Mayfield Cardinals met for the 71st time Friday night at the Stadium of Champions. Both teams were looking for their first win of the season and the Tigers were looking to end their seven-game losing streak to the Cardinals. The streak would continue as Mayfield beat the Tigers 51 to 28.
The Tigers fell behind early in the contest before Treston Kay would scoop up a Mayfield fumble and return it 78 yards for the touchdown. The Carlo Jones PAT was good, and the game was tied 7-7.
It would be all Mayfield the rest of the half as they would lead 30 to 7 at the break.
It was even in the second half as both teams scored 21 points.
The Cardinals are now 1-1 on the season while the Tigers fall to 0-2. The Tigers visit Christian Co. on Friday night for the 7pm kickoff at The Stadium of Champions.
